  1. HELLOooo sYNCD!!

    I am Josef, a local of class 2021, Saga RC and i love dancing. (: I’m writing to ask for advice because i want to start a ballet class for guys under your umbrella and was thinking of matters such as the whole process of starting a dance group here, whether this idea is feasible/ practical and the process of getting sponsors to make this possible.

    I have 3 reasons for this goal of mine..

    First, i feel that dance is a powerful medium for an individual to explore their identity. E.g. one’s femininity through street jazz, light-heartedness and strength through hiphop or just body confidence in general. My aim for classes to be solely for guys is because i feel that my species is less comfortable taking on those different ‘peoples’ and that if guys learn to switch their identities with ease, i think they would grow to be sure and confident of who they are as a man.

    Second, and the closest to my heart, is my wish for more intimacy between guys. I feel that there is a scarcity, at least from my experience, in close friendships between males in general and that is such a pity because those brotherly relationships can be really powerful; the support one gets from a female friend is very different from a male friend. And i think dance can meet this lack of male intimacy by serving as a space for guys to feel safe and risk, love and be vulnerable.

    Third is why ballet. I think ballet would give a practical reason for this class to be ‘only-boys’. Unlike other dance genres, there is a significant difference in dance between the sexes(at least, from what i’ve heard- ive only had 2-3 months of ballet experience); guys tend to be supporting, stronger and less flexible as compared to girls. Hence, a class dedicated to their needs would be pragmatic.

    So yes, i seek your advice and help in making this dream come true. ^^
